Supporting Teaching and Learning in the Second-Level School £15.00
The aim of good teaching at second level is to enable access to the curriculum for all learners. This represents challenges and opportunities for all schools. Diversity of students implies a diversity of teaching approaches. This book aims to extend teachers knowledge of practices which support inclusion.

Inclusive teaching in the second level school can be described as ‘doing things differently’. The underlying rationale for this book is that the learning goals for all students are the same but individual students will need different types of support at different times. The book describes a range of strategies and approaches which include differentiation of teaching, active learning and problem solving. Barriers to learning which present as specific learning difficulties are also addressed and the characteristics of learners with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, attention difficulties are also addressed. The development of literacy skills in the second level school receives specific attention with particular reference to reading to learn and ideas to support the development of students’ writing.
